Day 1: Casablanca - Rabat - Meknes - Fes
Our adventure starts in lively Casablanca, where we’ll meet you either at your hotel or the airport. After a brief introduction, we’ll head to the impressive Hassan II Mosque. From there, we’ll continue our journey along the coast to Rabat, the capital city of Morocco. Despite its size, Rabat has a laid-back coastal atmosphere. We’ll take a stroll to see the imposing Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
Next, we’ll visit the historic imperial city of Meknes. We’ll wander through the grand gates and majestic royal granaries of the old city before heading to Fes. You’ll enjoy dinner at your riad in Fes, and for lunch, we’ll stop along the way (either in Rabat or Meknes, depending on the time).
Day 2: Fes Sightseeing
One of the day’s highlights will undoubtedly be our visit to the Chouara Tannery, one of the world’s oldest tanneries where they still dye leather using ancient techniques. Day 3: Fes – Merzouga Desert via atlas Mountain
After breakfast In riad, we’ll start an exciting drive from Fes to the majestic Merzouga Desert. We’ll make a stop in Azrou to explore the lush Cedar Forest and hopefully see some native Barbary macaques playing in the trees. Free lunch time in Midelt.
Continuing our journey, we’ll drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, enjoying the stunning views of the Ziz Valley below. We’ll pass through Erfoud, a town famous for its date palms and unique fossils. Then we’ll continue on our way to the Merzouga Desert.
As we near the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, the landscape transforms into a stunning, desolate beauty. Here, we’ll exchange our van for camels and journey for about an hour into the heart of the Sahara Desert to witness the sunset. We’ll spend the night at a luxury camp, sleeping in comfortable tents under the starry sky. Gathered around the campfire, our Berber hosts will treat us to a delicious meal and enchanting traditional music, creating a truly magical desert experience!
Day 4: Merzouga desert – Rissani – Todra gorge – Dades gorge
Wake up early in the morning to enjoy the sunrise over a towering dune of Erg Chebbi. After breakfast, we’ll head to the ancient mudbrick city of Rissani, a significant historical trading post along the trans-Saharan caravan route. Then, we’ll continue to Erfoud to visit the best place for unique fossils. Finally, we’ll journey onwards through the town of Tinghir.
Continuing on, we’ll stop at the dramatic Todra Gorge, a narrow red rock canyon towering up to 300 meters high on either side. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch while admiring the views of this geologic wonder.
In the afternoon, we’ll travel along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, which winds through the Dades Valley. This valley is famous for its distinct rock formations that resemble “monkey toes”. Our last destination for the day is the town of Boumalene Dades, where we’ll spend the night in a traditional riad. We’ll enjoy delicious local Moroccan cuisine and prepare for the exciting adventures awaiting us!
Day 5: Dades gorge – Ait Benhaddou – Tizi-n-Tichka – Marrakesh
