6 Days Tour From Casablanca Itinerary

Day 1: Casablanca - Rabat - Meknes - Fes

Our adventure begins in the bustling city of Casablanca where I will meet you at your hotel/airaport. After a quick introduction, we’ll hit the road and make our way up the coast to Rabat, Morocco’s capital city. Rabat may be a big city but it has a relaxing coastal vibe. We’ll stretch our legs with a visit to the towering Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.

Next up is the ancient imperial city of Meknes. We’ll explore the soaring gates and impressive royal granaries of the old city before continuing on to Fes. We’ll settle into our riad in the heart of the medina and get ready for our full day of exploring tomorrow.

Day 2: Fes Sightseeing

After fueling up on mint tea and Moroccan pastries for breakfast, we’ll dive headfirst into the endlessly fascinating medina of Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage site. With over 9000 alleyways, we’ll barely scratch the surface, but it’s sure to be an unforgettable adventure. Your guide will lead you through this winding warren of alleyways and souks, pointing out stunning architecture and bustling souks along the way.

We’ll start at the Royal Palace, admiring its imposing brass doors before moving on to the Jewish Quarter, the first mellah in Morocco. From there, we’ll make our way to the oldest university in the world, the venerable Al Qaraouine, founded in 859 AD.

A highlight of the day will undoubtedly be our visit to the Chouara Tannery, one of the oldest tanneries in the world where they still dye leather using ancient methods. The sights and smells are not to be missed! After lunch at one of the best local spots, we’ll pop into the mosaic-tiled Attarine Museum and pay our respects at the Moulay Idriss mausoleum.

To wrap up an already amazing day, we’ll stop by some craft cooperatives to see master artisans at work. We’ll also stop to take in panoramic views of the entire old medina before returning to our riad for the evening.

Day 3: Fes – Merzouga Desert via atlas Mountain

Today we embark on an exciting drive from Fes to the majestic Merzouga Desert. We’ll make a stop in Azrou to explore the lush Cedar Forest and hopefully spot some of the native Barbary macaques playing in the trees.

Continuing on, we’ll pass through the Middle Atlas Mountains, admiring the breathtaking views of the Ziz Valley below. After a quick lunch stop in Erfoud, an oasis town known for its date palms, we’ll head to the dusty outpost of Rissani.

The landscape becomes more barren and beautiful as we approach the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here we’ll trade our van for camels and trek about an hour into the heart of the Sahara Desert to watch the sunset. We’ll spend the night at a traditional Berber encampment, sleeping in cozy tents beneath a sky full of twinkling stars. Around the campfire, our Berber hosts will serve a delicious homemade meal and play traditional music – a magical desert experience!

Day 4: Merzouga desert – Rissani – Todra gorge – Dades gorge

Enjoy an early morning sunrise over a high dune of Erg Chebbi before freshening up at a local hotel. After breakfast, it’s off to the ancient mudbrick city of Rissani, which was an important historical trading post along the trans-Saharan caravan route. Then onwards through the town of Tinghir.

Continuing on, we’ll stop at the dramatic Todra Gorge, a narrow red rock canyon towering up to 300 meters high on either side. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch while admiring the views of this geologic wonder.

In the afternoon, we traverse the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, winding through the Dades Valley, known for its unique rock formations that resemble “monkey toes”. Our final stop is the town of Boumalene Dades, where we’ll stay overnight in a traditional riad, dine on local Moroccan food, and get ready for the adventures ahead!

Day 5: Dades gorge – Ait Benhaddou – Tizi-n-Tichka – Marrakesh

Our private 6 day tour from Casablanca heads south today into the Draa Valley towards the oasis town of Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa” for its many movie studios and film locations. Next we’ll visit Ait Benhaddou, a well-preserved kasbah (fortified village) and UNESCO World Heritage Site. This impressive complex of earthen buildings is a highlight for many travelers.

After exploring Ait Benhaddou, we’ll drive over the scenic Tizi-n-Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains. At 7,400 feet elevation, the views along this mountain road are breathtaking. We’ll zigzag down the pass, catching glimpses of tiny Berber villages nestled in the hillsides, until we reach the lively city of Marrakesh. We’ll stay overnight in a traditional riad in the colorful medina quarters..

Day 6: Marrakech – Casablanca

On our last day of our 6 day tour to imperial cities and the Sahara desert from Casablanca, we’ll have a guided walking tour of Marrakesh’s top sights. We’ll visit the lush Majorelle Gardens, with its vivid blue buildings and Islamic art museum. We’ll see the soaring minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, the intricate carvings at the Bahia Palace, and the tranquil Saadian Tombs.

In the afternoon, you’ll have free time to further explore Marrakesh’s souks, jamaa el fna square, or relax at our riad before we drive back to Casablanca.
